Florentia
1903 - 1910
Florentia (Fabbrica di Automobili Florentia) was founded March 11, 1903 in Florence and started its production with the Type 10 HP. This was a small car was built in 1906 with a two-cylinder engine and an engine capacity of 1.4 liters. Among the main technical characteristics included was a 3-speed transmission with reverse and a shaft drive. Towards the end of 1904, Florentia now under license, began the production of the French Rochet-Schneider. This decision led to greater production and a profit increases. In 1906 the Rochet-Schneider models sold with their own developments of an engine with 10-28 hp.
Alongside this model came the "Stelvio", this had a four-cylinder biblocco engine with a four-speed gearbox. At the Motor Show of 1905, in Turin, Florentia also presented a 20 hp race car and a Rochet-Schneider from which the Florentia acquired immediately after the construction of the car's license Casa Francesca.
In 1905 they produced an every day car which was available in either a 16 HP or 35 HP. The factory at that time employed over three hundred people. In that same period they opened the La Spezia shipyard that built motorboats with engines from 0.8 to 80 hp, the 80 hp was well suited for their patrol boats. Later the company later tried to acquire the marine sites of SVAN in Venice. But this was soon abandoned because of an agreement with the Rochet-Schneider. The Florentia company produced 10, 18 and 28 HP (the latter to 6-cylinder) automobile in that period. Interesting experiment engine without valves. However, the company increasingly focused on the maritime sector for which the dislocation companies and the chronic shortage of capital ended up inexorably weakening the company which put it into liquidation in 1910.
In 1910 weaknesses within the company began to show and in 1912 was financially forced to close.
