Sanciome manufactured pedal assisted friction drive motors for bikes to the rear tire by chain drive, motor mounted above conventional pedals and chain wheel. This was an Italian brand that at least one motorized bicycle made in 1901 with a special structure: There was a single cylinder engine to the front frame tube hung with a chain drive to the rear.
This necklace was not at the wheel, but a role that was mounted under the seat to drive the rear wheel. That allowed the normal chain to still be used for cycling.
