CAP (Carrozzeria Arrigo Perini) was founded in 1968 in Arco, Trento.
The Scoiattolo was a very basic open utility car in the same vein as the Savio Jungla. The first incarnation of the Scoiattolo (which means 'squirrel') used Fiat 500 mechanicals, a beam front axle with front disc brakes. The bodywork was very rudimentary and was composed of entirely flat surfaces. Later examples used a Seat 600 (767cc) engine, prior to the launch of the Fiat 126 engine. All models had 2-wheel drive, but in 1970 a Super Scoiattolo model with 4-wheel drive was launched.
Before its production of Fiat 500 based off-road vehicles, CAP built 2 one-off vehicles based on Fiat 600 mechanicals.
