1910 - 1930
Fongri was founded by Eugenio Grignani, a technical expert and fan of motorcycles from Tourin, and studied and designed from the beginning of the 20th century. Founded in 1910, together with a shareholder partner, a company to build motorcycles, combining the names of two members (Fontana & Grignani). Fongri began the same year and was producing and marketing the first bike marked Fongri.
The engine, refined in the design and execution, was patented, built for the optimization of balance and characteristics such as the absence of vibration when in operation. It was atwin-cylinder four-stroke air-cooled, opposed-cylinder with a horizontal axis placed longitudinally on the chassis.
After the war, Fongri resumed the production and change the name. The Fontana script has long been detached from the company and had become: "Motocicli Fongri Ditta Fratelli Grignani" at which time the other brothers namely Grignani, Vittorio and Luigi entered the company. It was in this period is that a distinctive trademark was adopted, consisting of a tiger with a Fongri-cylinder engine held in its teeth, which the cylinders petruded from the sides of the mouth of the animal.
Over the years many models were produced including a special version, which was used exclusively for speed competition, built in very limited numbers. This would be the start in various competitions such as the Superga, the championship for Class 500. The racing performance was initially entrusted to the hands of Victor Grignani pilots and other "amateurs", the so-called Gentleman drivers. Later this was conducted by pilots who wrote the history of speed racing. This bike was ridden for one of its first races by the then the new to the circuit and future great rider Tazio Nuvolari.
