SAF (Societa Autogassogeni Ferraguti), based in Torino and founded by Mario Ferraguti, was one of the pioneers of renewable fuel and fuel saving type of combustion engines for vehicles. Sanctions hit the auto industry forcing Italy to adapt better fuel efficiencies, and their product, this system experienced a wide demand and expansion. Not a lot of information is avaliable on how their system worked exactly for lowering fuel consumption but it was similar to others that were avaliable in the coming years.
