Max Turkheimer & Co was a short lived adventure but produced beautiful motorcycles. Before producing his own motorcycles, Max
used single-cylinder horizontal and vertical engines. Max Turkheimer was pioneer in motorcycle racing and had been importing since 1894 from Hildebrand & Wolfmiller.
1931 - 1953
Max Turkheimer & Co assembled Astra motorcycles in Milan using numerous parts sourced from the Birmingham firm Components Ltd, builder of Ariel Motorcycles. These very attractive machines had 248cc and 498cc single cylinder engines, usually with Burman gearboxes and Bosch electrics. Prior to World War the Turkheimer company manufactured the Otav motorcycles.
