1907 - 2002
Atala was a producer of bicycles, especially for racing, founded by Cesare Rizzato in Padua. Founded in 1907, Atala saw its first big brake with Luigi Ganna winning the Tour of Italy in 1909. Since the beginning of the 20th century, they supported a team of cycling, by participating in the first editions of the Tour of Italy and also winning the unusual competition for teams, the Giro d'Italy 1912. Since 1921, Cesare Rizzato a craftsman-builder from Padua, started producing with the Ceriz brand, and in the '60s, leading international racing scene of the Atala brand.
Atala, founded as a bicycle factory, began building motorcycles before the war using JAP and Blackburn engines . After the war they produced a number of mopeds with engines. In 1977 Atala was taken over by Rizzo, who continued with the same name and the production of motorcycles.
After the victory of several world championships in 80s the company has experienced a period of crisis. The company was sold by the Rizzato family in 2002, forming the new Atala group which was owned by a group of entrepreneurs in Milan and Banca Antonveneta. It is currently owned by the Turkish company Bisiklet Bianchi, where almost all the production takes place.
The company in 2002 changed its name from Atala S.p.A. and is based in Monza from 2011 is part of the Accell Group; a European leader in the bicycle market and accessories.
To this day, Atala builds and designs traditional bicycles, pedal assistance and a complete line of accessories and home fitness.
Motorcycles
From 1938 to 2002 was the major motorcycle production with small displacements engines and some models were powered by electric motors.
