The plant actually came from the Cypselus cycle plant, which was founded in 1899 by Ippolito Raimondini. He produced "chain free" bicycles, which had a shaft drive. Ippolito went to the body shop Orlandi in Modena, where he had to develop a car. The bicycle manufacturing was led by his son Romeo.
