The Ducati 999R Xerox motorcycle is a special version of the Italian Ducati 999 motorcycle created to comply with the slightly different rule set of the North American AMA Superbike Championship.

Description

Because the North American AMA Superbike Championship that Ducati competes in has more stringent rules than European championships with regard to modifying mechanical parts and chassis, production models need to more closely match the racing bikes. This is good news for Ducatisti (dedicated Ducati fans)

The 999R Xerox is a special with features that distinguish it from the standard 999R model: Öhlins forks with black sleeves, anodised black footpegs and top yoke, Öhlins adjustable 'Racing' rear suspension, radial-mounted front brake callipers, and comes with a racing kit described below. The exhaust silencer is integrated into the monoposto rear, and has a black anodised alloy cover. The paintwork duplicates the official 2005 Superbike World Championship bike graphics, and there is a decals kit that includes the red adhesive wheel rim trim and race replica decals for the upper fairing.

That 150 hp at 9,750 rpm is the most power ever to grace a production Ducati trellis frame, until the subsequent 1098 model. The performance gain compared to other 999 models is attributed to the top end changes where more extreme cam-timing is countered by oversized titanium valves with reduced diameter stems on bronze seats.

The 999R also has titanium valve collets, 12-hole racing injectors, magnesium head covers, carbon fibre timing belt covers with vents and a carbon fibre silencer heat shield.

The light weight of the 999R has been achieved by the use of magnesium parts, including the supports for the front headlight and rear view mirror. The carbon fibre fairing and higher plexiglas screen provides protection even at top speed. The seat has a high-grip covering.

The race kit (“for track use only”) includes a 102 dB Termignoni exhaust, with a horizontal exhaust rear section (no catalytic converter), and a special electronic control unit to match. This improves performance and reduces the weight by 3 kg (7 lb).

Every 999R has a numbered silver plate on the top yoke, and a badge of authenticity comes with the bike.
