It is powered by a 65-degree 1000cc V-4 engine, the company's first production four-cylinder engine. Aprilia claims that the new engine was designed specifically for superbike racing and that the engine will put over 200hp in race configuration.

Aprilia intends to race the motorcycle in the 2009 Superbike World Championship and could also compete in some races in 2008 as part of the bike’s development program.
