Lorenzo Lanzi is an Italian WSBK rider. 2005 is his first season in the championship, riding mainly for the Caracchi Ducati team. Prior to 2005 he has raced in World Supersport and World Superstock championships, as well as a successful one off in the AMA Championship.

After a poor first 2 rounds, and injury keeping him out of the next two, Lanzi hit form, with 8 successive top-10 finishes on a 2004-spec bike. At this point his big chance came, as for the Lausitzring race he rides for the factory Xerox-sponsored team in place of the injured Regis Laconi. Lorenzo stunned the field by taking pole position for the 2 races. In race one he overshot the first corner and had to go down an escape road, seeing him cut several corners. He rejoined third, but had missed enough of the track to earn a ride-through penalty, dropping him down the field, although he fought back to 8th. However, in race 2 he took the win ahead of Chris Vermeulen and Noriyuki Haga, and a place in the factory team for 2006 looks likely.
