The United States Rubber Company was a rubber manufacturer founded by Charles R. Flint in 1892. The company purchased the Gillette Safety Tire Company, founded by Raymond B. Gillette, in 1940 [1]. The name was changed in 1967 to Uniroyal Inc.. As Uniroyal, the company was defendant in a landmark gender discrimination case, Chrapliwy v. Uniroyal, under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
In 1986 Uniroyal then merged with the B.F. Goodrich Company to become the Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company. The company was finally taken over by Michelin in 1990.
