The Pagani Huayra is a mid-engined sports car produced by Pagani. It is a successor to the Pagani Zonda and is as such the second model produced by Pagani. It will cost £850,000[1] when it goes on sale in the spring.

Performance

Like the Zonda, the Huayra uses a Mercedes-AMG 60° V-12 engine, now fitted with dual turbochargers.[2] This engine, the M158, produces over 700 horsepower and a torque of over 1,000 N·m (Template:Convert/lb·ft)Template:Convert/test/Aon. Its top speed is over 230 mph[1] and it has a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds.[1] Using Pirelli tires, the Pagani Huayra is capable of withstanding 1.5g of lateral acceleration at speeds of 230 mph ({{rnd/cExpression error: Unexpected < operator.decExpression error: Unexpected < operator.|Expression error: Unexpected < operator.|(Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "[".)}} km/h)Template:Convert/test/Aon.[2]

Unlike many modern supercars, the Pagani Huayra does not use a dual-clutch gearbox; instead it uses a seven-speed sequential gearbox and a dual-disc clutch.[2] The choice to not use a dual-clutch in oil bath was because it would lead to an increase in weight of over 70 kg (154 lb)Template:Convert/test/Aon, negating the advantage of the ability of such transmissions to change gears faster.[2] As a result, the entire transmission of the Pagani Huayra weighs 96 kg.[2]

Aerodynamics

The Pagani Huayra is different from its predecessor in that it incorporates active aerodynamics.[2] It is capable of changing the height of the front form the ground and independently operating four flaps placed at the rear and front of the car.[2] This is intended to achieve minimal drag coefficient and maximal downforce.[2] Air from the radiator is extracted through an arch in the bonnet at an angle that is designed not to affect the streamline around the body. The side air intakes behind the front wheels generate a negative pressure, resulting in downforce.[2]

Official debut

The Pagani Huayra was officially debuted online with many pictures in a press release on January 25, 2011. [2] [2] The official world debut will be at the Geneve Auto Salon 2011 in March.[3]
