1906 - 1909
Fial (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Legnano) was company which manufactured car, industrial and marine engines. 1906 they entered the automobile market and produced a single model in Legnano. It was the Type A 6/8 hp, the car had a two cylinder 1135 cc engine, of which a copy is at the Museo dell'Automobile in Turin. In 1908, just two years after the founding of Fial, the company was placed into liquidation after filing for bankruptcy. In 1909 the company was taken over by Rosa & Ferrario and car production was discontinued by the new owners. The 6/8 model was the only model they ever produced.
The establishment produced only one model of car, the type "A", also known as6/8 HP, with a twin-cylinder gasoline engine an iron block with 1135 cc with bore and stroke in 85x100 mm. The valves were controlled axis on the left side camshaft in the crankcase which was connected to a reference for the operation of the magnetic ignition. The transmission had three gears plus reverse with a cone of leather clutch and the cardan coupling.
The frame was pressed steel and wood with a springed suspension, 12-spoke wheels 700x80 mm with tires. The brakes acted only on rear wheels with a dual system, the hand-operate the drum brakes on the wheels while the drum pedal to the edge of change. The distinctive design of the round front was determined by the adoption of a radiator a radiator with a fan powered by a spring steel. This small two-seater car had a wheelbase of 1990 mm and track of 1093 mm and 1075 mm at the front and rear thanks to a weight of only 420 kg could reach the speed 40 km/h.
Following the failure of the model, the company curtailed its activities. In 1908 was placed into liquidation, and was found the next year by Ferrario & Rose. It finally closed the business of producing cars in 1909.
A copy of this car is preserved in the Museo Carlo Biscaretti Automobile Museum in Turin.
Even today, some collectors of vintage cars have to have a model of this car. It was even depicted on a postage stamp of the country of Equatorial Guinea.
