Magneti-Marelli is an Italian company which designs and produces high-tech components and systems for the automotive industry. It is a subsidiary of Fiat.
Magneti-Marelli has industrial and R&D facilities in Italy, France, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey, the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, China, Malaysia and South Africa. They supply car manufacturers such as Renault, Citroën, Peugeot, Fiat Group, Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, BMW-Rover, DaimlerChrysler, Opel, Volvo, Saab, Nissan, Toyota and Daewoo.
In 2000, Fiat announced plans to sell Magneti-Marelli on a piecemeal basis, but has since decided to infuse the ailing auto parts maker with fresh capital. As part of a restructuring, the company has disposed of its lubricants, mechanical components, thermal systems, aftermarket, and chassis systems units. Magneti-Marelli's remaining operations include lighting, powertrain, exhaust, and suspension components.
